Empowering Women in Tech: The Prolific report of WiT Amsterdam

Last month, I had the fantastic opportunity to attend the European Women in Tech (WiT) event in Amsterdam, thanks to the Learning and Development budget available to all Prolific team members. 

This annual event brings together over 4,500 women working in tech across various industries. It's a vibrant space for networking, championing DE&I initiatives, and learning about the latest industry trends.

What is WiT, and why is it important?

WiT isn’t just a conference - it's a movement that aims to empower and support women in the technology sector. The event is a crucial platform for:

• Networking with fellow technologists.
• Championing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) initiatives.
• Learning about cutting-edge industry trends.
• Participating in small group workshops for skill development.
• Building relationships and learning from shared experiences.

This was an excellent opportunity to upskill, connect with other women in tech, and gain insights I could apply to my own career journey.

My WiT experience

The event was filled with great vibes and energy. There was an excellent turnout, and the buzz of excitement was palpable!

One of the most valuable aspects of the event was learning how organizations of different sizes and industries approach DE&I. It was enlightening to see what lessons we could take from well-established organizations, both in terms of implementing successful strategies and avoiding common pitfalls.

A highlight for me was hearing from women in leadership positions. Their stories of how they reached their current roles, what they’d do differently, and how we can apply these lessons to our own careers were truly inspiring.

Using Prolific's Learning and Development budget

At Prolific, we're fortunate to have individual Learning & Development budgets. Every Prolific employee has an annual budget of £/$1,000 for education, growth, and training. This budget can be used for everything from developing a new technical skill to coaching on soft skills and buying educational books.  

By using my budget to attend WiT, I was able to: 

• Take time and space away from daily routines and discover fresh perspectives.
• Connect with other technologists and get inspired by their stories.
• Gain valuable skills and insights that I can use to progress my personal development.
