An interview with Jag Singh, Prolific’s first US hire

There has never been a more exciting time to join Prolific. We’re on a mission to revolutionize how the world learns about people so that people can revolutionize the world. On our growth journey, we’re expanding rapidly in the US, and this year we’ve opened a new office in the vibrant heart of New York City.  

Our very first US hire, Jag Singh, joined us in early 2024 as Strategic Account Manager to support our exciting growth trajectory in AI. I sat down with Jag to discuss his experience so far - and what’s on the horizon for Prolific in the US.

Allie Shewan: So, Jag, you’re Prolific’s first US employee. That's pretty exciting. Why did you decide to join Prolific?

Jag Singh: Well, there are a couple of things. First, Prolific is at the table with some of the largest AI model developers in the market. So there's a massive opportunity here to not only help your business grow but also learn a lot myself. 

Secondly, Prolific has a sound business model. Prolific is really thoughtful about how it grows, so there's a measured level of risk that the business is taking. And to me, that tells me that there's mature leadership here that other scale-ups just don't have.

Allie Shewan: How did it feel to know that you'd be our first US hire? Did that factor into your decision to join Prolific?

Jag Singh: Being the first of anything carries a significant weight, and I didn't take that lightly. Being the first US employee at Prolific was exciting and, if I'm being honest, scary. But I also saw it as an opportunity. 

I've centered my career around being a pioneer salesperson. Being the first US hire and helping build out the presence in the US is a continuation of a lot of the experience that I've had in the past, so that's where the excitement comes from. The scary part was that I started alone, but now the team's growing. We've added and are adding new folks, and we're quickly going to grow this space.

Allie Shewan: We’re currently in our New York hub near Union Square. You've been here for a couple of months now. How has your Prolific journey been so far?

Jag Singh: The journey so far has been fulfilling, inspiring, and challenging for all the right reasons. 

I come in and learn something new every day, and that's really important to me in my role and any role at any company that I've worked at. It's inspiring because the level of talent that we have at Prolific is, in my experience, the best that I've ever had around me. I feel like the dumbest person in the room, often, and that's a good place to be. 

Going back to why this place is fulfilling, I'm constantly learning. It's challenging because it's a new frontier for Prolific and myself, and that's something that I welcome with open arms.

It's what makes the day exciting. Knowing that I have folks around me who will help support that growth makes me excited to get up each day, come in, and give my best.

Allie Shewan: It seems like there's a lot on the horizon for Prolific in the US. What's next?

Jag Singh: Given that a large portion of Prolific's revenue already comes from the United States, the lion's share of opportunity exists in the US market. We're seeing it with our existing customers, with how they are committed to Prolific, but we're also seeing signals of more interest within the US market. 

So, it's important right now for Prolific to focus its efforts on this geography and continue to grow and expand. We need the right coverage and the right team in place to help our customers where they actually are.

What that means for Prolific is we're going to continue to grow the team in the US. This opportunity to join early on gives us a chance to really mold what Prolific’s US culture will be, what the team will look like, as well as how well the team performs. And that, to me, is something that brings me great joy.
